Ayesha Naseem Biography

 

 

         Ayesha Naseem (born 7 August 2004) is a former Pakistani cricketer who played as a top-order batter and right-arm medium-fast bowler. She made her Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) debut for Pakistan against Thailand on 3 March 2020, at the age of 15. She made her Women's One Day International (WODI) debut against the West Indies on 12 July 2021.

        Naseem was born in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. She started playing cricket at the age of 10, and was soon selected for the Pakistan Under-19 team. In 2019, she was selected for the Pakistan Women's XI team, and made her debut in the Women's Cricket Challenge.

 
In January 2020, Naseem was chosen in Pakistan's crew for the 2020 ICC Ladies' T20 World Cup. She made her WT20I debut against Thailand, and scored 22 runs from 18 balls. She also took 1 wicket in the match.

         Naseem continued to impress in the domestic circuit, and was named in Pakistan's squad for their series against South Africa in December 2020. She scored 33 runs from 28 balls in her first WODI, and took 2 wickets in the match.

         Naseem was a regular member of the Pakistan team in 2021, and played in the Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier and the Women's Asia Cup. She scored 130 runs from 10 matches in the World Cup Qualifier, and took 7 wickets.

Naseem announced her retirement from international cricket on 20 July 2023, at the age of 18. She refered to individual explanations behind her choice. 

        In her short career, Naseem was one of the most promising young cricketers in Pakistan. She was a talented batter and bowler, and had the potential to become a star for the national team. Her retirement is a loss for Pakistan cricket, but she leaves with the best wishes of everyone who knows her.
